The Muzak project is an on-going series of mixes created by a group of international friends of ours. All contributors have been asked to make a selection of tunes to be distributed on this site. We aim to bring music of great variety and to upload a new mix at least every month. Enjoy.

Our friend Noshe - photographer born and raised in Berlin - is a member of the Contentismissing All Stars.
Contentismissing is a group of professionals from the distinctive fields of architecture, design, media & music with the objective to provide a creative environment for collaboration as well as independent work and to cross-inspire the various members through close contact with the activities of their associates.
The Contentismissing DJ's are nowadays a little bit more quiet but used to throw party series at legendary WMF club in Berlin. The record label is more active than ever and just had their 6th release.
Noshe's mix is a compilation of the genres and tracks that he finds relevant. From the roots of funk to deep house and straight up hip hop.

We have known MHM One aka Morten Halborg-Moeller since he first picked up a spraycan in the mid 90's. At the time Morten played the drums in various bands, but his true musical vision came to him years later during a longer residence in Berlin. Besides doing mixes for Wood Wood he is the man behind the Kill Your Telly club nights famous among Copenhagen ravers, and is one of the regular DJs at Copenhagen's Culture Box. MHM One has been remixing tracks for artists like Joe Montana, Martinez, I Got You On Tape and is releasing his own tracks on Tartelet Records, Fabric's WYS! label and Fantastic Friends.
In Morten's own words MUZAK 17 consists of slo mo living room dance music with lots of warm synths and hand claps.

Mathias Mesteno is a well renowned House producer/dj hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark.
Since his initial loveaffair with record-spinning and collecting took off at the tender age of 11, Mathias has moved across the board spinning everything from Hip Hop, Disco, Funk, House & Techno (+ everything in between)
With a solid reputation as a trustworthy selector and a skillfull turntable wrecker, Matt has been travelling the world , showcasing his musical vision at places like Fabric, Panorama Bar, Watergate etc.
As a procducer Mathias has released numerous 12 inches on labels such as Berlin's Upon You and London's Freerange Records, among others.
The musical influences stretches from Dj Alladin and Mr. Fingers over Kool G Rap and Dj Deeon to Lonnie Liston Smith and Larry Levan.
For this selection Matt went back to the time of his 8 year strong residency, at Copenhagens foremost House/Disco club VEGA (R.I.P)
The mix is a tribute to the times of old, where Love reigned and Disco ruled.

Wolfram Eckert who is known under many names (most notably Marflow or Diskokaine) has been an eccentric monarch to the Vienna party scene these last years. His love for swanky Italo Disco and his impeccable grasp of how to party made way past the Austrian borders in no time. He has worked with Princess Superstar, Haddaway and Hercules & Love Affair, toured with Moby and released Sally Shapiro's goose bump inducing song "I'll Be By Your Side" in 2006 on his label Diskokaine. He recently released his first album and again it's a rich and heavy Italo, Eurodance gem that you can't help but shake your legs to. The best thing about this thrash-tastic talent is that he stayed the nice and very hairy guy from Carinthia.

Having released on labels such as Mirau, Compost Black, Hfn Music, Plant and V2, (most recently the hit singles "Young Again" and "Heaven" from his sophomore album "Standing on top of Utopia" from 2010, incl. the remixes by Prins Thomas and Nicolas Jaar that recieved support by everyone from Seth Troxler to Tim Sweeney), Kasper has positioned himself as one of the most renowned and versatile Danish contributors to the electronic music scene;
both as a Dj and producer. As a remixer, Kasper has pretty much covered the whole spectrum: From Trentemoller and WhoMadeWho to FM Belfast and Under Byen - and huge international acts like Moby and Shakira. Recently abandoning the A&R chair at indie label Fake Diamond, where he discovered acts like Danish pop phenomenom Oh Land, Kasper has his focus on finishing his 3rd solo album as well as the 4th album under the Filur duo moniker, with his old pal Tomas Barfod, while running their Superbacon club concept, that throws parties all over Europe - as well as inviting some of the best Djs around to come and play with them in Copenhagen.
Around the time Kasper was to do MUZAK 13, he was on a longer roadtrip in the US eastcoast, Dj'ing at New Yorks Le Bain and Miami's Electric Pickle. After his return he finally compiled this very personal mix for Wood Wood, showcasing exactly what Kasper is all about as a Dj: From 92 bpm to 117 bpm old school disco-edits and deep electronic sounds to sexy house anthems.

Signore Munk aka Mathias Modica is one of the leading figures of the new German Indie Disco-House scene. He runs the GOMMA label with his buddy Telonius, where also fellow MUZAK contributors & friends WhoMadeWho and Tomboy release their music. Besides running the label he travels around the world DJing, producing and plays a whole lot of different instruments. His 3rd album "The Bird & The Beat" has just been released and is creating big waves. Recorded with 10 girls singing in 8 different languages it has been described by London's DJ magazine as "one of the best clubalbums of the new year". On the album Mathias has created his completely own futuristic sound mixing up influences from 1920's German Dada, 70's Rock, 80's Italo Pop and 90's House.
For the MUZAK mix Mathias came up only with rare vinyls from the 70's. Garage Rock from Connif Thyself, Fucked up Jazz Funk by Miles Davis and early days sinthesizer arpeggios by some forgotten Kraut heros. Dirty & nasty.

Kevin Carney aka Nitedog has tuned in and turned on his mixed up disco not disco fix since the late 1980's, notably with his Saturday night residency at Gavin Browns' legendary Passerby in New York City. Making his way west to Los Angeles in 2003, he founded the BlackDisco 12" label and weekly party alongside collaborator Lovefingers. With ten releases behind them, the BlackDisco crew have curated underground disco soirees in an assortment of places. From poolsides in Palm Springs to dive bars in Tokyo to sweaty basements in London, even throwing down a guest spot on influential radio show Beats in Space for good measure.
A dedicated vinyl enthusiast, the Creative Director (The Generic Man/Generic Surplus) and store owner (Mohawk General Store in Silverlake) swears by recording everything on a Bozak mixer onto reel to reel tape. Using analog recordings to get the warmest possible audio to the masses. This mix was recorded in his Echo Park studio overlooking Downtown L.A., the Pacific ocean, and distant planes landing at LAX. Enjoy!

Marvin & Valentino started to build their reputation as proper DJs and party promoters about three years ago. They soon kicked off their weekly residency at former Munich based club Erste Liga with a goal to create parties carried by the quality of the music played. Within that aim there were no boundaries except that the music should make people wanna dance.
After quickly establishing a name for themselves in Munich, the word spread and they started doing sets in other cities across Europe, sharing the booth with other MUZAK contributors such as DJ Kaos, the Rollerboys, Tiedye, Hugo Capablanca, as well as Tim Sweeney, Hunee, the Gomma Gang and Spectacle.
When not on the decks or searching for new tunes, Valentino is studying at the Art Academy in Munich and working as a the graphic designer for Munich based brand A Kind Of Guise, Marvin is a philosophy student at the University of Vienna.

Under his Headman cloak, Robi Insinna has continually pushed the no-wave disco sound through his own productions and remixes. Such remixes have been regular, from established acts looking for a dancefloor attitude such as Roxy Music and the Gossip, to the recent reworks of The Detachments and Hannalelauri. Since his first album dropped on Gomma in 2003 he has released three more, the latest of which '1923' featured the contributing talents of Yello's Dieter Meyer and the Beta Band's vocalist Steve Mason. The latest single 'Blue Boys/Blue Girls' utilizes the vocal talents of the Dave Okumo, lead singer with London band The Invisible, and Jackie from Geordie new-waver's The Retriever.
Alongside this work he has built his label Relish Recordings to support emerging talents such as Mickey, the previously mentioned Hannalelauri and JR Seaton. We are proud to present you with 59 minutes of the distinct Headman take on the bleary magic of the club period between 1988-91! This is a mix to be heard through the smoke.

The Rollerboys epic disco parties beginned in Stockholm April 2006. Venue after venue were conquered to find the perfect environment for having a decadent all night party. It quickly became an institution for disco, with international bookings alongside Mans & Yourhighness, and long crazy nights.
As a natural development for Rollerboys, Rollerboys Recordings saw the light in Spring 2007. With six amazing releases so far, Sweden has finally got an electronic disco label worth mentioning.
The two original Rollerboys, Mans & Yourhighness have been friends of ours for a while now, and it was only natural to have them contribute to the Muzak series.
Get on your rollerskates and dance!

Anton and his buddy Edvin make up TIEDYE of Gothenburg, Sweden. When not chilling in the Swedish woods, having fun behind the decks or remixing other people's songs, they perform as an actual band with live instruments.
Their DJ sets often incorporate cosmic, balearic, italo and other weird disco stuff - but with a distinct Nordic sound.
TIEDYE have previously released music on the labels Rong, DFA and Italians Do It Better.

"From the point of being scared towards almost everything, I kinda stole my dj name from my favorite writer a couple years ago and then worked really hard to become something wild... with an alias and a lovely mask printed all over my face - everything sort of worked out rock'n'roll-wise. I began softly with a vision to mix lyrically and to tell stories to the crowd, which of course nobody on the dancefloor understood... So from there i've just tried to mix something really arty with something really poppy, rave with candyfloss, straight beat with gay vocal and always a dykesong that is not singer-songwritten... I always try to surprise with my set and stage apperance, but still i like to have absoluly nazi control towards the floor... the audience should not believe that i have - let go" - Djuna Barnes
Djuna did this mix, originally titled 'hippie not hippie mix # 3 - the heroin edition' a few months back and it's been a studio favourite ever since. Relax and enjoy.

Eric Duncan is one-half of legendary NYC DJ duo Rub-n-Tug, best known for their raucous warehouse parties and heavy disco mashups. A few years back we had Eric and Thomas come play at a party we were doing with Adidas. We didn't really tell anyone as we wanted this to be a surprise. No flyers, no e-mails or anything. Unfortunately only around 10 people showed up.. Including them and us.
Eric has also done collaborative releases under the monikers Still Going and How & Why? + solo excursions as Dr. Dunks. Eric's sets are usually a crazy blend of underground disco classics, raving house jams and funky rock.
