The Muzak project is an on-going series of mixes created by a group of international friends of ours. All contributors have been asked to make a selection of tunes to be distributed on this site. We aim to bring music of great variety and to upload a new mix at least every month. Enjoy.
Hailing from the far North of Jutland but residing the Danish capital, Kim has an impressive resume and has made a genuine impact over the years. He started his career as a rapper but it was with Money Your Love and their massive hit 'For Kristoffer' that Kim's tremendous voice made its way to every corner of Denmark.
With his 'Shackles Of Amusement' album, Kim is responsible for one of the best and most overlooked Danish records, and with his partner Thommy he did the infamous DRAMA! clubbing events. Nowadays Kim is busier than ever. He is regularly Dj'ing around town when not hosting the Nobody club at Bakken. His latest band project, also entitled Nobody, combines his great song writing skills, incredible voice and some of Copenhagen's finest musicians. The icing on the cake is Kim and Niels K. Eriksen's Menthol project. Their recent EP on the new Danish label Cejero is beyond. According to the label the EP consists of "Four pieces of music that are very now and very nowhere." We couldn't agree more. Rune Brink of Dark Matters has done an excellent job producing videos for all 4 tracks from the Menthol EP.
For his contribution to Muzak, Kim takes us on a journey into his musical mind displaying his eclectic mixtape skills.
Make sure to check his Soundcloud for more mixes.
Unkwon aka. Anders Dixen has established himself as a highly talented producer and his remixes embody a distinct sound and vibe that truly stands out. The unique bass heavy slow-motion R'n'B of Unkwon has led to numerous remixes lately - among others for CTM, Rough Days For Diamond Trade and When Saint Go Machine. His giving away his own great EP for free over here - make sure to check the laid back synth heavy beat music with the most beautiful pitched down vocal samples.
When not busy producing Anders is probably out dj'ing and when he played at our WWAW013 The Club after party he tore the place apart.

Natasha Ganelina is the art director of Strelka Bar, one of Moscow's most interesting cultural venues which houses concerts and dj-sets by artists such as How To Dress Well, King Krule, Dean Blunt and Ariel Pink. Strelka is the place to check for exhibitions or fashion show after parties and to see director Whit Stillman dancing to disco, singer Caroline Polachek jumping on couches or architect Rem Koolhas having a late-night dinner.
In this mix, Natasha recalls her childhood and past dreams. Here she combines sounds from her parents' first imported cassette player; terrible post-Perestroika era pop - music from the 1990s with its primitive rhythm; CD's from Russia's first music magazines on techno, ambient and trip hop; and the beats of Moscow's first dance parties, frequented by both the cool kids and the gangsters.
Thomas Bullock has been a friend of Wood Wood for years and his mix for our Muzak series has been awaited with patience and high expectations. We are happy to now present the mix by the man also known as Mirror Boys, Otterman Empire, a member of the punk project Bobbie Marie, the Laughing Light of Plenty with artist Eddie Ruscha and founding former member of the legendary band A.R.E Weapons. Thomas is also one half of DJ duo and party crew Rub-N-Tug and half of psych-rock disco legend band Map Of Africa along with DJ Harvey.
Together with his partner Eric Duncan in the legendary DJ duo Rub-N-Tug, we have had the pleasure of having Thomas play at Wood Wood events in the past and his ability to rock a floor – and keep it rocking – is obvious on the 128 min. mix.
Entitle ‘Tom Of England Stays Focused In NY’ this mix is typical of Thomas with its funky bass lines, unexpected styles and high-voltage party vibes.
It is with great pleasure and pride that we are welcoming Tim Sweeney of the legendary Beats In Space radio as contributor to our Muzak series. In his early years Tim Sweeney worked with hip hop legend Steinski and when coming aboard the DFA Records crew, he went touring with James Murphy and released several mix albums. The Beats In Space radio show began in the fall of 1999 and has not missed a week since then. The radio show is mixed live by Tim Sweeney and friends in New York City on WNYU 89.1 every Tuesday night from 10:30pm to 01:00am.
This mix is a live recording from the BIS party Tim Sweeney did on June 21st for the Secret Circuit album release.
Enjoy 50min of all-out New York disco vibes.
Djuna Barnes is the first Dj to contribute with a second mix to our Muzak series. Everyone at Wood Wood has been enjoying her first mix and we are confident that her latest 'Goodmorning!' mix will also go into heavy rotation.
With its burnt-out party aftermath sound, the mix is for those evenings when the club has closed and the party continous at the pier or in the kitchen at home by those with the most tolerant neighbours.
Djuna has been collecting tracks with this afterburner sound for years and the mix that spans from GusGus to John Tejada over Hot Chip and Omar S, has a dreamy longing vibe to it.
For more mixes follow Djuna Barnes on
Facebook and Soundcloud.
Christian is the disco guy in Copenhagen. His Disco Dick parties in the meatpacking district brought the origins of dance and club music back to Copenhagen night life, and in this era of mp3's and usb's, his vinyl-only sets of underground disco suddenly seems more current than ever. In April, 2013, Christian and fellow dj's Kasper Bjørke, Waqar and David Garset open their own place in the meatpack, called Harvey - a reference to the invisible man-size rabbit from the 1950es movie. This is gonna be the place to be in CPH, just follow the white rabbit.
Besides his disco thing, Christian has spent his life collecting psych, r&b, folk, rock and odd stuff, and can easily be found playing a set that doesn't fit into any specific genre. Apparently, that's what he decided to do for us today.
If you miss the disco tunes though, visit Christian's Soundcloud.
Ever since the early Boom Clap Bachelors and Owusu & Hannibal days, we have been digging the sound of Robin Hannibal. Since then the Danish composer and producer has only gotten better and better and among other projects, he has gone on to create the beautiful neo-soul of Quadron together with the fabulous singer Coco. Now Robin has created yet another project – the intimate slow-soul of Rhye with androgynous vocals by Mike Milosh. The primary goal of Rhye is said to be to pay tribute to world-tilting romantic experiences and the music is definitely to fall in love with.
We are happy to bring Robin's soulfulness to the mix and to present his compilation of smooth and soothing tracks from the likes of R.Kelly, Ian Wilson, MJ and Patrice Rushen.
We are honoured to announce Diplo and his Mad Decent crewmember Dj Ultra Cat as the latest contributors to our on-going Muzak series. Diplo became world famous with his Major Lazor project that presents a powerful dancehall party sound. Besides running Major Lazor and the record company Mad Decent, Diplo has been working with artists such as Beyonce, Snoop Lion, M.I.A. and Usher to name a few.
A true legend on the Danish techno scene, Dj Daniel has played a major role as a Dj, party promoter and record company owner since the mid 90s. Daniel was the initiator to the first-of-its-kind dance music radio show on national radio, D’Store Mix on P3, where he himself was hosting the section concerned with the more peculiar and underground releases. Over the years he has released several records in the UK, Germany, Denmark and Japan.
Nowadays he seldom gets behind the turntables and we are honoured to present his Muzak mix consisting of a selection of Bass, House, Techno and UK garage.

So this one is by our good friend and Swedish graphic designer PMKFA, now residing in Marocco after a few years in Tokyo and half a decade in Copenhagen and London. We have known Micke Thorsby since design school, and we have previously worked together on various projects and through his own brand It´s Our Thing. Micke´s work spans over different disciplines such as music graphics, apparel design and art installations + he is really into D-I-Y and mix tapes. His clients include Adidas, Sixpack France, DC Shoes, Scion and La Vida Locash.
While the sound of MUZAK 19 is a heavy combination of bass, trap, screw and other dark sub genres the process of mixing was described by Micke like this: "I was sitting in a large villa with a big pool by a laptop with a kitten as only company. In the shadow of the mighty Atlas mountains south of Marrakech. Far from any clubs, styrofoam cups and chromed out "22's.
Our friend Noshe - photographer born and raised in Berlin - is a member of the Contentismissing All Stars.
Contentismissing is a group of professionals from the distinctive fields of architecture, design, media & music with the objective to provide a creative environment for collaboration as well as independent work and to cross-inspire the various members through close contact with the activities of their associates.
The Contentismissing DJ's are nowadays a little bit more quiet but used to throw party series at legendary WMF club in Berlin. The record label is more active than ever and just had their 6th release.
Noshe's mix is a compilation of the genres and tracks that he finds relevant. From the roots of funk to deep house and straight up hip hop.
We have known MHM One aka Morten Halborg-Moeller since he first picked up a spraycan in the mid 90's. At the time Morten played the drums in various bands, but his true musical vision came to him years later during a longer residence in Berlin. Besides doing mixes for Wood Wood he is the man behind the Kill Your Telly club nights famous among Copenhagen ravers, and is one of the regular DJs at Copenhagen's Culture Box. MHM One has been remixing tracks for artists like Joe Montana, Martinez, I Got You On Tape and is releasing his own tracks on Tartelet Records, Fabric's WYS! label and Fantastic Friends.
In Morten's own words MUZAK 17 consists of slo mo living room dance music with lots of warm synths and hand claps.
The Swedish mp3-blog Discobelle consists of Brendan Arnott, Martin Andersson and Niklas Mijdema who've been spreading the gospel of dance music for almost 6 years via what has evolved into an internationally renowned blog. Last year they decided to up the ante by starting the record label Discobelle Records and until now they've stacked up 22 releases of the best music you didn't know that you loved. Discobelle have also played all over Europe and the US under the name Discobelle DJ's.
This mix is based on some tracks that the guys have been feeling lately, enjoy!
Mathias Mesteno is a well renowned House producer/dj hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark.
Since his initial loveaffair with record-spinning and collecting took off at the tender age of 11, Mathias has moved across the board spinning everything from Hip Hop, Disco, Funk, House & Techno (+ everything in between)
With a solid reputation as a trustworthy selector and a skillfull turntable wrecker, Matt has been travelling the world , showcasing his musical vision at places like Fabric, Panorama Bar, Watergate etc.
As a procducer Mathias has released numerous 12 inches on labels such as Berlin's Upon You and London's Freerange Records, among others.
The musical influences stretches from Dj Alladin and Mr. Fingers over Kool G Rap and Dj Deeon to Lonnie Liston Smith and Larry Levan.
For this selection Matt went back to the time of his 8 year strong residency, at Copenhagens foremost House/Disco club VEGA (R.I.P)
The mix is a tribute to the times of old, where Love reigned and Disco ruled.
Wolfram Eckert who is known under many names (most notably Marflow or Diskokaine) has been an eccentric monarch to the Vienna party scene these last years. His love for swanky Italo Disco and his impeccable grasp of how to party made way past the Austrian borders in no time. He has worked with Princess Superstar, Haddaway and Hercules & Love Affair, toured with Moby and released Sally Shapiro's goose bump inducing song "I'll Be By Your Side" in 2006 on his label Diskokaine. He recently released his first album and again it's a rich and heavy Italo, Eurodance gem that you can't help but shake your legs to. The best thing about this thrash-tastic talent is that he stayed the nice and very hairy guy from Carinthia.

Having released on labels such as Mirau, Compost Black, Hfn Music, Plant and V2, (most recently the hit singles "Young Again" and "Heaven" from his sophomore album "Standing on top of Utopia" from 2010, incl. the remixes by Prins Thomas and Nicolas Jaar that recieved support by everyone from Seth Troxler to Tim Sweeney), Kasper has positioned himself as one of the most renowned and versatile Danish contributors to the electronic music scene;
both as a Dj and producer. As a remixer, Kasper has pretty much covered the whole spectrum: From Trentemoller and WhoMadeWho to FM Belfast and Under Byen - and huge international acts like Moby and Shakira. Recently abandoning the A&R chair at indie label Fake Diamond, where he discovered acts like Danish pop phenomenom Oh Land, Kasper has his focus on finishing his 3rd solo album as well as the 4th album under the Filur duo moniker, with his old pal Tomas Barfod, while running their Superbacon club concept, that throws parties all over Europe - as well as inviting some of the best Djs around to come and play with them in Copenhagen.
Around the time Kasper was to do MUZAK 13, he was on a longer roadtrip in the US eastcoast, Dj'ing at New Yorks Le Bain and Miami's Electric Pickle. After his return he finally compiled this very personal mix for Wood Wood, showcasing exactly what Kasper is all about as a Dj: From 92 bpm to 117 bpm old school disco-edits and deep electronic sounds to sexy house anthems.
Signore Munk aka Mathias Modica is one of the leading figures of the new German Indie Disco-House scene. He runs the GOMMA label with his buddy Telonius, where also fellow MUZAK contributors & friends WhoMadeWho and Tomboy release their music. Besides running the label he travels around the world DJing, producing and plays a whole lot of different instruments. His 3rd album "The Bird & The Beat" has just been released and is creating big waves. Recorded with 10 girls singing in 8 different languages it has been described by London's DJ magazine as "one of the best clubalbums of the new year". On the album Mathias has created his completely own futuristic sound mixing up influences from 1920's German Dada, 70's Rock, 80's Italo Pop and 90's House.
For the MUZAK mix Mathias came up only with rare vinyls from the 70's. Garage Rock from Connif Thyself, Fucked up Jazz Funk by Miles Davis and early days sinthesizer arpeggios by some forgotten Kraut heros. Dirty & nasty.
Kevin Carney aka Nitedog has tuned in and turned on his mixed up disco not disco fix since the late 1980's, notably with his Saturday night residency at Gavin Browns' legendary Passerby in New York City. Making his way west to Los Angeles in 2003, he founded the BlackDisco 12" label and weekly party alongside collaborator Lovefingers. With ten releases behind them, the BlackDisco crew have curated underground disco soirees in an assortment of places. From poolsides in Palm Springs to dive bars in Tokyo to sweaty basements in London, even throwing down a guest spot on influential radio show Beats in Space for good measure.
A dedicated vinyl enthusiast, the Creative Director (The Generic Man/Generic Surplus) and store owner (Mohawk General Store in Silverlake) swears by recording everything on a Bozak mixer onto reel to reel tape. Using analog recordings to get the warmest possible audio to the masses. This mix was recorded in his Echo Park studio overlooking Downtown L.A., the Pacific ocean, and distant planes landing at LAX. Enjoy!
Marvin & Valentino started to build their reputation as proper DJs and party promoters about three years ago. They soon kicked off their weekly residency at former Munich based club Erste Liga with a goal to create parties carried by the quality of the music played. Within that aim there were no boundaries except that the music should make people wanna dance.
After quickly establishing a name for themselves in Munich, the word spread and they started doing sets in other cities across Europe, sharing the booth with other MUZAK contributors such as DJ Kaos, the Rollerboys, Tiedye, Hugo Capablanca, as well as Tim Sweeney, Hunee, the Gomma Gang and Spectacle.
When not on the decks or searching for new tunes, Valentino is studying at the Art Academy in Munich and working as a the graphic designer for Munich based brand A Kind Of Guise, Marvin is a philosophy student at the University of Vienna.

Under his Headman cloak, Robi Insinna has continually pushed the no-wave disco sound through his own productions and remixes. Such remixes have been regular, from established acts looking for a dancefloor attitude such as Roxy Music and the Gossip, to the recent reworks of The Detachments and Hannalelauri. Since his first album dropped on Gomma in 2003 he has released three more, the latest of which '1923' featured the contributing talents of Yello's Dieter Meyer and the Beta Band's vocalist Steve Mason. The latest single 'Blue Boys/Blue Girls' utilizes the vocal talents of the Dave Okumo, lead singer with London band The Invisible, and Jackie from Geordie new-waver's The Retriever.
Alongside this work he has built his label Relish Recordings to support emerging talents such as Mickey, the previously mentioned Hannalelauri and JR Seaton. We are proud to present you with 59 minutes of the distinct Headman take on the bleary magic of the club period between 1988-91! This is a mix to be heard through the smoke.
The Rollerboys epic disco parties beginned in Stockholm April 2006. Venue after venue were conquered to find the perfect environment for having a decadent all night party. It quickly became an institution for disco, with international bookings alongside Mans & Yourhighness, and long crazy nights.
As a natural development for Rollerboys, Rollerboys Recordings saw the light in Spring 2007. With six amazing releases so far, Sweden has finally got an electronic disco label worth mentioning.
The two original Rollerboys, Mans & Yourhighness have been friends of ours for a while now, and it was only natural to have them contribute to the Muzak series.
Get on your rollerskates and dance!
One guy many hats. Barfod is one of the most important figures in the Danish clubscene, known mostly from his solo work and as drummer/producer in the band Whomadewho.
For Tomas the kickstart came with the acid/disco 12 inch series on Gomma records, shortly afterwards came releases on Get Physical, Kitsune and Turbo. Tomboy is also is a much requested remixer and have done remixes of such diverse artists as Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Gorillaz, Lance de Sardi, Digitalism, Telex, Chromeo and Asia Argento.

Dj Kaos, once described by WW designer Karl-Oskar as 'one of the best persons in this world', has produced a variety of twisted dance music for a number of years now. His remixes have proven in demand, remixing everyone from !!! (Chk Chk Chk) to Roxy Music to the New Young Pony Club. Alex is a Paris born, Tokyo raised DJ, producer and co-ordinator. He is now based in New York city returning to Tokyo twice a month to party, DJ and continue 'Tokyo Club Mix Showcase' - his radio show of 12 years on Shibuya FM
In the early 90s he participated in the development of the Paris underground club scene with friends DJ Deep and DJ Gregory through their "A Deep Groove" unit. Later on he decided to move to NYC to go more global and to take his art to the next level. Today Alex is producing music under the name Tokyo Black Star with partner Isao Kumano, releasing original material on Sonar Kollektiv/Innervisions.
Anton and his buddy Edvin make up TIEDYE of Gothenburg, Sweden. When not chilling in the Swedish woods, having fun behind the decks or remixing other people's songs, they perform as an actual band with live instruments.
Their DJ sets often incorporate cosmic, balearic, italo and other weird disco stuff - but with a distinct Nordic sound.
TIEDYE have previously released music on the labels Rong, DFA and Italians Do It Better.
"From the point of being scared towards almost everything, I kinda stole my dj name from my favorite writer a couple years ago and then worked really hard to become something wild... with an alias and a lovely mask printed all over my face - everything sort of worked out rock'n'roll-wise. I began softly with a vision to mix lyrically and to tell stories to the crowd, which of course nobody on the dancefloor understood... So from there i've just tried to mix something really arty with something really poppy, rave with candyfloss, straight beat with gay vocal and always a dykesong that is not singer-songwritten... I always try to surprise with my set and stage apperance, but still i like to have absoluly nazi control towards the floor... the audience should not believe that i have - let go" - Djuna Barnes
Djuna did this mix, originally titled 'hippie not hippie mix # 3 - the heroin edition' a few months back and it's been a studio favourite ever since. Relax and enjoy.

Eric Duncan is one-half of legendary NYC DJ duo Rub-n-Tug, best known for their raucous warehouse parties and heavy disco mashups. A few years back we had Eric and Thomas come play at a party we were doing with Adidas. We didn't really tell anyone as we wanted this to be a surprise. No flyers, no e-mails or anything. Unfortunately only around 10 people showed up.. Including them and us.
Eric has also done collaborative releases under the monikers Still Going and How & Why? + solo excursions as Dr. Dunks. Eric's sets are usually a crazy blend of underground disco classics, raving house jams and funky rock.
